USU Researchers Develop Nontoxic Fungicide to Protect Wheat

USU USTAR researchers Jon Takemoto and Tom Chang have developed a nontoxic fungicide that they call K20, which may help protect the worlds wheat crop from blight and other diseases. Wheat is a staple for 1/3 of the worlds population and the second largest cash crop in Utah. The Utah Department of Agriculture and Food calls Takemoto and Chang’s work “a monumental discovery” that will “lead to a number of solutions for farmers in Utah and across the globe.”

Takemoto and Chang are partnering with Logan based Baicor conducting field tests and working with the EPA for regulatory approvals.
