USU Epidemiologist Aiding Fight Against Deadly Parasitic Disease
Dr. Scott Bernhardt recently returned from northeast India where he is helping combat a deadly parasitic disease known as Visceral leishmaniasis. He is part of an National Institutes of Health funded team. He is collaborating with the Tropical Medicine Research Center and Banaras Hindu Univeristy "to understand insecticide resistance in the sand fly, which is the primary vector for the leishmaniasis transmission to humans" (Bernhardt).
