Joseph K.-K. Li Scholarship

Established in memory of Dr. Joseph K.-K. Li. Dr. Li passed away unexpectedly on 2 October 2015 in Halifax while vacationing with his wife, Livia. Dr. Joseph Li, Professor Emeritus, was appointed to USU in 1983. Joe received his BS at University of Redlands, California, MS at State University of California at Los Angeles, and PhD at UCLA. Dr. Li's research centers on virus morphogenesis, structure and function of viral genes and proteins, vaccine development and use of oncolytic viruses to destroy human cancer cells. Dr. Li has published over 72 papers and nine book chapters, and has organized 18 international conferences. Dr. Li has received numerous honors and recognition, including receiving the Distinguished Service Award from the Society of Chinese Bioscientists in America (SCBA) and the designation of Honorary Professor at several institutions in China. Dr. Li served as Executive Director of SCBA from 2000-2009. At USU, Dr. Li has been recognized as Undergraduate Research Mentor of the Year in 2007, National Mortar Board Top Professor in 1998, and received the USU Extension and Continuing Education Association Award in 2006. Dr. Li was dedicated to undergraduate research throughout his years at USU.
